AI-assisted

    Terms of Service

    Last updated: May 3, 2026

    Scope of these terms

These Terms govern your use of the application interface, pedagogical content authored by us (CEFR levels, scope notes, sequencing, examples, exercises, audio, UI translations), and any user-contributed material shared through the app.

They do not restrict, and cannot restrict, your rights to the underlying open vocabulary data (YSO, TERO, ALLFO) supplied by the National Library of Finland under Creative Commons licenses. Those rights flow to you directly from the upstream license, not from us. See Data sources & licenses.

    1. The service

The service helps you learn Finnish and Swedish through vocabulary, audio, quizzes, and AI-assisted exercises. It uses anonymous device identifiers to persist your progress; no account is required.

    2. Acceptable use

    You agree not to:

    • Use the service to harass, defame, or harm others.
    • Submit content to the shared glossary that infringes third-party rights, contains personal data of others, or is unlawful.
    • Attempt to overload or disrupt the service, the AI gateway, or upstream Finto APIs.
    • Misrepresent the origin of vocabulary entries — in particular, do not strip provenance metadata that marks an entry as sourced from Finto.

    3. Open data — what we cannot restrict

The vocabulary backbone of this app is built on open ontologies published by the National Library of Finland through the Finto service:

    • YSO (General Finnish Ontology) — CC BY 4.0
    • ALLFO (Swedish interface to YSO) — CC BY 4.0
    • TERO (Health Sciences Ontology) — CC BY 3.0

CC BY licenses prohibit applying "effective technological measures" or "additional or different terms" that would legally restrict downstream reuse of the licensed material. Accordingly, nothing in these Terms — including the restrictions on user content in Section 5 — applies to the Finto-sourced fields of any record (the finto_* columns and their referenced concept URIs). You may extract and reuse those fields under the original CC BY terms, with attribution to the National Library of Finland and a link to the relevant license deed.

    CC's "no additional restrictions" guidance

    4. Our pedagogical additions

Fields prefixed pedagogical_* (CEFR level, scope notes, sequence index, examples), audio recordings we generate, quiz logic, UI copy, translations, and the application code are our work. They are made available to you for personal, non-commercial learning use while you use the service. We reserve all other rights unless we publish a specific open license for a specific asset.

    5. User contributions

When you add an entry to the shared glossary, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to host, display, and distribute that contribution within the service and any community exports. You confirm you have the right to share it. You can request removal of contributions tied to your device ID at any time.

These contribution terms apply only to the parts you authored. If your entry mirrors a Finto concept, the Finto-sourced fields remain governed by the upstream CC BY license — not by this section.

    6. AI-generated content

The app uses AI models (via the Lovable AI Gateway) to generate examples, translations, and exercises. AI output may contain errors and should not be relied on for medical, legal, or other professional purposes. You are responsible for verifying anything you act on.

    7. No warranty

The service is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee uptime, accuracy of translations, or continuous availability of upstream Finto APIs.

    8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

    9. Changes

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

    10. Contact

Questions about these Terms, takedown requests, or attribution corrections can be raised through the project's public repository or feedback channel.
